During covid lockdown, our client Center Parcs took advantage of their parks not being occupied by people enjoying a break. Center Parcs operate their sub tropical swimming pools 365 days a year, so the direct impact of a pool shutdown would be severely detrimental to revenue income.
Instruction was given to us to conduct underwater conditional surveys to all 5 pools, outlining any health and safety issues, regulation breaches relating to the HSG179 guidance documentation and general improvement works. We set to work within 5 days of instruction and the written reports with photographic evidence were submitted within 10 days of instruction.
Duration: 13 weeks
The main concern that was raised within our reports to both Sherwood and Elveden sites, was the fact that grout depletion was high and that the integrity of the pool tiling was in jeopardy. This depletion was caused by the acidic content within the pool water breaking down the cement based grout.
UK Diveworks were requested to provide quotation and expert advice on the methodology of re-grouting the pools subsurface. After our clients consideration UK Diveworks were awarded the works. Time frame was very much against us as talks of the UK Government unlocking the country were very real and our client had the requirement to have both pools fully completed and handed back in an operational state within 14 weeks.
A nine-man specialist dive team was mobilised to the first site (Sherwood) within 48 hours of instruction. This was to maximise the time scale we had for completion. Every single grout channel within the main pool, flume landing pools and lazy rivers were removed to a minimum depth of 6mm and new underwater epoxy grout was installed to secure the tiling integrity of the pools. Other remedial works to the pool lights, tiling and grille covers was also completed.
Once Sherwood was complete and signed off, the dive team travelled straight on to Elveden where a repeat of Sherwood was completed.
